A Shift to Wave-Based Tactical Defense
Relic Entertainment has officially announced Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand, marking a departure from the traditional real-time strategy format. Instead of standard RTS gameplay, this new entry focuses on a wave-defense experience, tasking players with surviving relentless enemy assaults, challenging bosses, and unpredictable battlefield scenarios.
Strategic Depth and Roguelite Progression
While the game adopts a different structure, it remains rooted in the tactical core of the franchise. The developers have integrated a roguelite progression system specifically designed to reward players for their adaptability and willingness to experiment with new tactics. According to the studio, the game focuses on delivering the high-stakes intensity the series is known for:
«Players can jump right in and experience the thrill of holding the line against overwhelming odds, whether they're longtime fans or new to the franchise. The game captures the classic Company of Heroes feeling of those pivotal moments where, when faced with overwhelming odds, preparation, adaptability, and decisive command determine survival.»
Gameplay Features and Availability
The title launches with the following core components:
- Factions: Four distinct factions, each offering unique progression paths and combat strategies.
- Maps: Five specialized battlefields specifically crafted for defensive gameplay.
- Challenge: Eight varying difficulty levels to accommodate different skill tiers.
- Co-op: Full support for both solo play and two-player cooperative sessions.
Although Final Stand shares its DNA with Company of Heroes 3, it functions as a standalone experience, meaning no prior familiarity with the series is necessary. The game is scheduled for release on July 29 with a retail price of $30. Existing owners of Company of Heroes 3 are eligible for a 20% discount. The game is currently available for wishlisting on Steam.
