Microsoft has introduced Copilot Tasks, a new AI feature described as a to-do list that manages itself. Users describe what they need in natural language, and Copilot plans and executes tasks, reporting back when complete. It can work across apps and services in the background for recurring, scheduled, or one-time tasks.
Examples include surfacing urgent emails with draft replies, tracking apartment listings, compiling weekly briefings, creating study plans from a syllabus, and turning emails into slide decks. It can also handle booking services, monitoring prices, and managing subscriptions.
Microsoft emphasizes user control, requiring consent for actions like spending money or sending messages. Any task can be paused or canceled. The tool aims to consolidate information from calendars, files, and browsers to streamline workflow.
Currently in a limited research preview, Copilot Tasks is accessible via a public waitlist, with broader availability expected in the coming weeks.
