A recent update to Dell SupportAssist Remediation software, version 5.5.16.0 released on April 30, is causing frequent blue screen errors and reboot loops on Windows 11 systems like the XPS 15 9530. Users report crashes every 30 minutes with the ‘CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED’ error.

Debugging tool WinDbg traced the issue to DellSupportAssistRemediationService.exe, a background component with deep system access. This service, part of Dell’s support platform, handles diagnostics and recovery but now triggers system crashes instead of normal app failures.

Many users initially blamed Windows 11, but the root cause is Dell’s software. The company has acknowledged the problem and is working on a fix. Meanwhile, they recommend uninstalling the tool or disabling the service.

To disable the service, run Command Prompt as administrator and type: sc.exe config "Dell SupportAssist Remediation" start= disabled. Alternatively, uninstall the SupportAssist Remediation app via Settings > Installed apps. Note that system recovery points may become unavailable after removal.
