Revolutionizing Heavy-Duty Mining
Zijin Longking has officially introduced the ZL230E, a state-of-the-art, fully electric mining vehicle. Recognized as the largest of its kind manufactured in China, this truck represents a significant shift toward decarbonizing the heavy industrial sector.
Technical Specifications and Performance
The ZL230E is engineered for the rigors of massive open-pit mining environments. With a total weight of 350 tons—comprising a 120-ton curb weight and a 230-ton payload capacity—the truck is built to handle substantial material movement. Its cargo box boasts a volume of 125m³.
Powering the vehicle is a dual 800kW motor configuration paired with a multi-axle, independently distributed drive system. This setup ensures optimal power distribution, even when navigating the challenging terrain and steep inclines typical of mine sites.
Battery Innovation and Rapid Charging
At the heart of the vehicle lies an impressive 1,400 kWh battery pack. To put its scale into perspective, this capacity exceeds that of 23 Tesla Model 3 units combined. According to the manufacturer, the battery supports high-speed charging, moving from 10% to 90% in just 25 minutes, significantly minimizing operational downtime.
«This new vehicle is a powerful tool designed for high-intensity continuous operations in ultra-large open-pit mines,» stated Huang Wei, president of Longking.
Safety and Industry Impact
Beyond raw power, the ZL230E incorporates a patented multi-ring beam, high-rigidity frame, and redundant systems for braking and steering. These features are critical for maintaining safety in demanding industrial conditions.
The China Construction Machinery Association notes that this launch highlights significant advancements in domestic heavy-tonnage electric equipment, pushing the industry toward wider adoption of sustainable off-highway solutions.
Strategic Fleet Transition
Zijin Mining, the parent company, is aggressively pursuing a green transition. Having grown its electric mining fleet from 13 units in 2020 to over 1,700 by 2025, the organization aims to phase out all fuel-dependent trucks within three years. Recent deployments at the Julong Copper Mine have already demonstrated a 17% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional diesel counterparts.
Looking ahead, the company intends to create an integrated ecosystem combining these electric trucks with renewable energy sources, advanced battery storage, and comprehensive charging infrastructure to further cement its commitment to sustainability.
