OnePlus has officially introduced its newest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16. However, international fans will be disappointed to learn that the device will not see a release outside of China.

A Strategic Shift in Global Markets

Following the brand's unexpected decision in July to withdraw from the US and European markets, the OnePlus 16 marks the first major flagship to be excluded from these regions. While OnePlus retreats from these areas, parent company Oppo is intensifying its presence in Europe with the staggered rollout of the Find X10 Pro Max.

Although the devices share considerable development DNA, they target different user bases: while Oppo prioritizes high-end camera technology, the OnePlus 16 is explicitly tuned for maximum performance, making its restricted availability a significant loss for enthusiasts.

Performance and Gaming Capabilities

The device inherits a design language reminiscent of its predecessor and the Oppo Find series, with a standout feature being the Tomorrow's Starlight edition, which incorporates an illuminated section on the rear panel.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. To further solidify its gaming credentials, the device includes an Oppo-engineered "e-sports triple chip," specifically designed to optimize network stability, touch sensitivity, and graphical output.

To maintain peak performance during extended sessions, the phone utilizes the "Glacier Cooling System." According to the manufacturer, this system offers:

  • A 40% improvement in vapour chamber performance.
  • A 50% enhancement in thermal gel conductivity.

The company notes that this setup is engineered not only to manage internal temperatures but also to dissipate heat away from the user's hands.

Display, Battery, and Optics

The visual experience is driven by a 6.78-inch BOE f-OLED panel that supports a 185Hz refresh rate for compatible gaming titles. The display reaches a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and includes support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

Battery life and charging speeds are equally robust:

«The device is equipped with a massive 9,000mAh battery, supported by 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities, promising over eight hours of intensive gameplay on a single charge.»

On the photography front, the handset features a sophisticated triple-camera setup:

  • 200-megapixel primary sensor (1/1.4in).
  • 50-megapixel 3x telephoto lens (1/1.95in).
  • 50-megapixel ultrawide camera.

The device runs on Android 17, customized with the ColorOS 17 interface. While the starting price in China is set at CNY 5,999 (approximately $900), OnePlus currently has no intentions of offering the device to customers in North America or Europe.
