Enhanced Optical Performance
The Polaroid Go series has long held the title for the most compact analog instant cameras available. With the launch of the Polaroid Go Gen 3, the manufacturer has focused on refining the internal hardware to provide a higher-quality photography experience without sacrificing its signature small form factor.
The most significant technical update is the revamped lens system. While the previous Gen 2 model utilized a 34mm equivalent focal length with f/9 and f/32 apertures, the new iteration shifts to a 42mm equivalent focal length with apertures set at f/14 and f/32. This design change aims to deliver noticeably sharper images. While the narrower field of view may require a bit more distance for selfies, it provides more flattering results for portrait photography.
Upgraded Flash and Speed
Polaroid has integrated a more robust flash system into the Gen 3, designed to handle challenging lighting conditions with better consistency. This hardware enhancement allows the lens to stop down to f/14, contributing to overall sharpness, while simultaneously increasing the shutter speed from 1/300 sec to 1/500 sec. Despite these power improvements, the camera maintains its efficient energy consumption, offering approximately 120 shots per full charge.
Design and Usability
To accommodate these performance upgrades, the Gen 3 has seen a marginal increase in physical size and weight. The device now measures 106.5 x 83.8 x 64.6mm and weighs 251.9g (without film). Despite the slight increase, it remains an incredibly portable device that utilizes the same micro-sized Polaroid Go film.
The camera retains its most popular creative features, including:
- Built-in self-timer
- Integrated selfie mirror
- Double-exposure capability
