Enhanced Graphical Capabilities on the Horizon

Recent reports regarding Qualcomm’s next-generation budget processor, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 6, suggest that the company is planning a substantial upgrade to graphical performance. Industry whispers indicate that the upcoming SoC could be equipped with an Adreno 6-series GPU, marking a significant leap for the entry-level mobile segment.


Connectivity and Hardware Upgrades

Beyond the graphics processing unit, the leaks suggest that Qualcomm is focusing on modernizing wireless standards for budget-conscious devices. According to the information shared, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 6 is expected to support:

  • Bluetooth 6.0: Bringing the latest standard to the budget tier.
  • Wi-Fi 6: A notable improvement over the Wi-Fi 5 found in the previous generation.
  • Security Refresh: Internal systems are reportedly receiving a security overhaul to ensure better protection.

Maintaining Core Architecture

While the graphics and connectivity are slated for upgrades, other hardware aspects may remain consistent with the current generation. The chip is rumored to retain a 4nm manufacturing process and keep the existing CPU architecture, potentially sticking with the 2+6 Kryo core configuration (Kryo Gold and Kryo Silver). By keeping the CPU architecture steady, Qualcomm appears to be focusing its resources on optimizing the areas where budget phones struggle most: graphical output.


Closing the Performance Gap

The predecessor, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, made headlines earlier this year by introducing 90fps gaming capabilities to the 4-series for the first time, thanks to a 77% increase in Adreno 4-series GPU performance. The rumored move to an Adreno 6-series architecture suggests that Qualcomm is aiming to provide a more consistent gaming experience.


«Budget phones often struggle with mobile games with more intense graphics, but if Qualcomm is truly looking to boost its GPU again, maybe users can feel more comfortable with medium graphics across the board without noticeable FPS drops,» notes the industry analysis.

As of now, there is no official word on a release schedule. However, given that the previous lineup was unveiled in May, market observers expect a similar launch window for the Snapdragon 4 Gen 6 in the coming year.
