Samsung has announced a new "Digital Home Key" feature for its Wallet app, enabling users to unlock compatible smart home locks directly with their smartphone. The company has partnered with Aliro, using the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) protocol, to ensure interoperability between digital keys and smart locks.

Users with a compatible smart lock set up via SmartThings can add a Digital Home Key through the Wallet app. The feature supports both Ultra-Wideband (UWB) for proximity-based unlocking and NFC for tap-to-unlock functionality. Security is handled by Samsung Knox, with the key stored securely on the device and protected by biometric or PIN authentication within the Wallet app.

The rollout of the Digital Home Key begins in March, with plans to expand compatibility to more smart lock brands. This move marks a shift for Samsung Wallet, which has recently focused on payment features like split payments and Tap to Transfer.
