Qualcomm has announced its new flagship 5G modem, the X105 Modem-RF System, at MWC 2026. Designed for the "agentic AI era," it succeeds the X85 and introduces key advancements for reliable connectivity.

The modem supports 5G over satellite via NR-NTN technology, providing a fast connection where traditional cell service fails. It also features NB-IoT fallback, a low-power network technology that maintains basic messaging in areas with physical obstructions like elevators and parking garages.

Powered by agentic AI for improved performance, the X105 offers downlink speeds up to 14.8Gbps and uplink speeds of 4.2Gbps. Qualcomm will provide APIs for developers to leverage its predictive intelligence capabilities.

The modem is likely to power upcoming flagship chipsets like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6, potentially featuring in future smartphones from brands such as OnePlus and Samsung. This technology aims to eliminate coverage gaps, ensuring users stay connected virtually anywhere.
