The Introduction of the 'Survivaton' Label
During the Future Games Show, Luca Galante, the mastermind behind the hit indie title Vampire Survivors, discussed the studio's strategy for expanding the franchise. Building on the success of Vampire Crawlers, Galante announced a new categorization for spin-off projects titled “Survivatons.”
According to an official statement from developer Poncle, the label is designed to group projects that expand upon the core mechanics of the original game. As Galante humorously noted, the term is a condensed version of “survive-a-ton.”
“Each project will aim to introduce major gameplay changes, content expansions, or genre twists exploring ideas substantial enough to stand as their own games,” the studio clarified.
The original Vampire Survivors will undergo a branding update, being renamed to Vampire Survivors - First Survivaton, while the first brand-new title under this label is expected to be announced in the near future.
New Content and Future Support
Despite the focus on new spin-offs, Poncle remains committed to supporting the original game. Galante announced a new mini-expansion titled Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Blood Moon. This add-on is set to include over eight new characters and weapons, along with various evolutions, all for an accessible price point of approximately $1 USD.
Furthermore, the game continues to receive regular updates. Patch 1.15 is already live on Steam, introducing:
- A brand new stage
- New playable characters
- Additional weapons
- The introduction of 'Darkanas'
Regarding the longevity of the project, Galante emphasized, “I'm not planning to let go of Vampire Survivors anytime soon.”
Strategic Expansion into Japan
In addition to game developments, the studio announced the launch of Poncle Japan. This new subsidiary aims to strengthen the company’s footprint in the Japanese gaming market. The branch will be led by industry veteran Sawaki Takeyasu, whose portfolio includes notable work on titles such as Devil May Cry and El Shaddai.
