A Major Update for the Sandbox RPG

Hytale, the sandbox RPG that captured significant attention during its early access debut in January, is entering a new phase of development. Despite its initial success, creator Simon Collins-Laflamme has remained candid about the project's status, previously noting that the title was still in its infancy. However, that perspective is shifting as Hypixel Studios has just published a substantial developer blog post, offering a deep dive into the future of the game.


Looking Ahead: New Content and Features

The developers have provided a transparent look at what players can expect, while simultaneously managing expectations. As Collins-Laflamme stated in the blog:

«To be transparent, there aren't many reasons to come back and play Hytale right now. We have a lot of work to do to realize the game's potential, and this is just the start of that journey.»

Expanding the World

The roadmap for Chapter 1 introduces several exciting additions. Players can look forward to a new handcrafted dungeon, a challenging encounter with a goblin chieftain, and a variety of new goblin units. Perhaps most anticipated is the "Goblin Breach" world event, which allows players to traverse portals into new realms to face off against monsters and secure unique loot.

Beyond the goblin-themed content, the developers are planning to implement a variety of dynamic world events, including predator tracking, dangerous Void assassins, wave-based combat encounters, and complex puzzles that restrict simple mining strategies.


Technical and Gameplay Improvements

The development team is also focusing on significant under-the-hood changes and quality-of-life upgrades. Key planned features include:

  • A completely overhauled user interface.
  • A new, integrated mod browser.
  • Introduction of Spectator and Hardcore gameplay modes.
  • A comprehensive rework of the existing crafting system.
  • Improved player character models and additional cosmetic options.
  • A library of over a dozen minigames and party games for social play.

Development Timeline

Hypixel Studios has shared an tentative schedule for these implementations:

  • Chapter 1 & Minigames: Expected within the next 2-3 months.
  • Spectator/Hardcore/Mod Browser/Platform Migration: Projected for the next 2-3 weeks (Update 6).
  • Custom UI (NoesisGUI): Scheduled within the next 1-2 months.
  • Carryable Objects: Expected within 2-3 months.
  • Cubic Chunks: Technology is being integrated weekly, with content to follow.
  • Machinima Tools: Planned for release within 2-3 months.
