A New Standard in Wearable Health Tech

Huawei has officially unveiled the Watch D3, a device that stands out in the crowded smartwatch market. While many wearables mimic the aesthetic of an Apple Watch, the D3 integrates a highly specialized medical-grade feature directly into its strap: an inflatable airbag designed to measure blood pressure.


Unlike Apple's current approach, which relies on optical sensors to detect patterns suggestive of hypertension, the Huawei Watch D3 functions similarly to a clinical blood pressure cuff. It uses an internal pump to compress the wrist, providing users with exact systolic and diastolic readings. This hardware-intensive design gives Huawei a significant edge in health monitoring capabilities.


Refined Design and Advanced Monitoring

Moving away from the bulky look of its predecessors, the D3 draws inspiration from the Watch Fit series, successfully camouflaging its medical components. The device is notably slim, measuring 11.3mm in thickness and weighing just 40g, with a vibrant 1.9-inch display that boasts a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.


Key features of the Watch D3 include:

  • Ambulatory Monitoring: Continuous 24-hour tracking, including automated overnight readings.
  • Fitness Integration: The watch now tracks blood pressure changes before and after exercise to analyze how the body responds to physical exertion.
  • Efficiency: Despite the integrated pump, the battery lasts up to six days.
  • Health Glance: A rapid assessment tool that captures 11 health indicators in approximately 60 seconds.

The device has received CE marking under the EU Medical Device Regulation, underscoring its reliability as a health monitoring tool.


The New Watch GT 7 Series

Alongside the D3, Huawei launched the Watch GT 7 series, tailored for outdoor enthusiasts. This lineup features an improved positioning system that leverages an accelerometer and gyroscope to maintain accuracy when GPS signals are weak, such as in tunnels or dense forests.

For winter sports enthusiasts, the GT 7 offers enhanced mapping for over 3,000 ski resorts and can even calculate G-forces during turns. Cyclists also benefit from new features like climb planning and sharp-turn warnings. Additionally, Huawei has introduced a new "Physical Readiness" score, which synthesizes sleep data and HRV metrics to guide daily training.


Pricing and Availability

The Huawei Watch GT 7 starts at £280, with the Pro model beginning at £380; both are available for order immediately. The advanced Huawei Watch D3 is priced at £400 and is scheduled for retail release on September 23.
