Expanding Global Availability

After a significant wait following their initial debut in Taiwan in late 2025, HTC is finally expanding the reach of its Vive Eagle smart glasses. The tech manufacturer has officially confirmed that the device will be available to consumers in the United Kingdom starting September 21.

The pricing for the UK market has been set at £429. This positions the device at a higher price point compared to the Meta Ray-Ban glasses, which currently hold the dominant market share in the smart eyewear category.

International Rollout

The expansion is not limited to the UK. HTC has confirmed that the glasses are also arriving in the United States with a price tag of $499, and across the European Union for €469. While US customers can purchase the device immediately, residents in the UK and EU will need to wait until the late September launch, though pre-orders for these regions are open as of today.

A Focus on Privacy and Security

HTC is positioning the Vive Eagle as a privacy-conscious alternative in an industry currently grappling with significant controversies regarding surveillance. To address concerns about unauthorized recording, the Vive Eagle includes a visible notification light when capturing content. Furthermore, the company has implemented a

"multi-sensor" approach that will disable any capture functionality if the indicator light is tampered with, damaged, or obscured.

Technical Specifications and Battery Life

The hardware features a 12MP camera capable of 3K video recording, paired with 4GB of RAM to support AI-driven voice assistant tasks. The device carries an IP54 rating, ensuring durability against various weather conditions.

Regarding battery performance, the glasses offer:

  • Active Usage: 4–6 hours of continuous use, such as uninterrupted music playback.
  • Standby Time: Up to 36 hours.

For power-users, HTC is offering the "Power Boost" accessory—a portable battery module that attaches to the frames, providing an additional 80% charge. The accessory will retail for $49 / £45 / €49.

Market Outlook

The launch of the Vive Eagle serves as a key test for the smart glasses industry. It remains to be seen whether consumers are interested in the technology on its own merits, or if the success of competitors has been largely driven by the strength of the Ray-Ban brand. Whether HTC can successfully carve out a niche in such a contentious market will be a story worth watching.
