Global Expansion After a Year of Waiting

Following their initial release in Taiwan last year, HTC’s Vive Eagle smart glasses are finally heading to international markets. After a prolonged period of silence regarding availability outside of its home region, the company has announced that these wearable devices are now launching in North America, Europe, the UK, and Australia. This rollout offers consumers a chance to test whether these glasses can serve as a viable competitor to the current dominant offerings in the smart eyewear segment.

Hardware Specifications and Privacy Features

Despite the long delay in reaching Western markets, the hardware remains largely unchanged. The device is powered by the Snapdragon AR Gen 1 platform, paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It features a 235mAh battery, which HTC claims can provide up to 36 hours of standby time. The device also includes a 12-megapixel camera located on the front.

Privacy has been a focal point for HTC during the development of these glasses. The company has implemented several safeguards to ensure responsible usage, including:

  • A notification LED that cannot be disabled during recording.
  • An automatic stop mechanism that prevents the camera from capturing footage when the glasses are not being worn.
  • A voice-command feature where the system ceases recording if a bystander explicitly asks the user to stop.

AI Integration and User Experience

A primary feature of the Vive Eagle is its integrated AI capability, allowing users to toggle between OpenAI’s models or Google’s Gemini based on their specific needs. HTC has emphasized that user privacy remains a priority, stating that collected data is not used for internal model training and that all requests are anonymized to protect user identity.

«The AI interacts with the user through open-ear stereo speakers built directly into the frame, which also facilitate music playback and podcast streaming throughout the day,» the company noted.

Pricing and Availability

The Vive Eagle comes in two design styles—square and panto—with several translucent color options such as Black, Coffee, and Berry. The glasses arrive with high-quality Zeiss lenses, available in clear, tinted, or adaptive variants, and are designed to support the easy installation of prescription lenses.

In the United States, the product is available for purchase immediately, with base model pricing starting at $499. Customers in Europe and the UK can expect shipments to commence on September 21st, with the entry-level model priced at €469 and £429, respectively.
