Google is giving its NotebookLM tool a visual overhaul designed to bring order to messy projects and text-heavy notebooks. A new customization feature currently in testing will allow users to personalize their workspaces, making notes, journals, and diaries easier to navigate and distinguish.

According to reports, Google is experimenting with custom banner images for individual notebooks. This change would add a distinct visual identity to each notebook, helping users tell them apart at a glance instead of scrolling through uniform pages. The update introduces a dedicated header area where the notebook title appears over a banner image, with a "Customize" button to add personal or cloud-stored images.

Google is also adding more context to the header, displaying the notebook's creation date alongside the source count. This detail could help users better track older projects or diaries. While the feature is still in testing and its final form—including whether AI-generated banners will be an option—is not yet clear, it promises to bring welcome clarity and a sense of order to cluttered digital workspaces.
