Eight Sleep has officially introduced its latest innovation, the Pod 6 smart mattress cover. The new system brings significant hardware upgrades, including a 20% increase in cooling and heating speed and a sophisticated array of 18 biometric sensors. This launch also marks the introduction of the first 'Solo' size, allowing individual sleepers and those in couples to access the brand’s wellness technology at a lower entry price point, starting at $1,999 / £1,799.


According to Matteo Franceschetti, CEO and Co-founder of Eight Sleep, the Pod 6 represents the pinnacle of their mission to enhance human potential through optimized rest. The company has also confirmed that it is currently pursuing FDA clearance for potential sleep apnea detection and mitigation features.


Technical Enhancements and Design

The Pod 6 introduces several critical engineering refinements aimed at improving user comfort and data accuracy:

  • Enhanced Thermal Performance: The redesigned thermoelectric engine delivers 550W of power, allowing the system to reach target temperatures 20% faster than the previous generation.
  • Advanced Sensor Array: By increasing the number of embedded sensors from two to 18, the cover provides more granular biometric tracking. This helps isolate data more effectively, even when partners, children, or pets are sharing the bed.
  • Streamlined Hub: The under-bed Hub has been reduced in volume by 50%. Its re-engineered 'bottomless' water reservoir allows it to fit conveniently under most standard bed frames without sacrificing power.
  • Autopilot 4.0: This AI-driven engine continuously learns sleep patterns, incorporating environmental factors such as room temperature and local weather to adjust the bed's climate in real-time.

Focus on Precision and Health

The increased sensor density is specifically designed to provide clinical-grade insights into heart rate, HRV, breathing patterns, and movement. By providing a cleaner signal, the system aims to solve common issues regarding data interference between bed partners. Furthermore, the inclusion of a 'Pregnancy mode' allows for tailored thermal regulation and monitoring to address specific discomforts during gestation.

Accessibility for Solo Sleepers

The introduction of the 'Solo' size addresses demand from both individuals living alone and couples where only one person desires smart sleep optimization. These covers are modular; two Solo units can be zipped together at a later date, providing flexibility for growing households. The cover is secured via an integrated strap system to prevent shifting, and its design ensures a seamless transition between the smart-enabled side and the rest of the mattress.
