Expanding Gaming Access via Prime Video
Starting this Thursday, Amazon is significantly increasing the visibility of its cloud gaming service, Luna, by integrating it directly into the Prime Video app. Prime members using Fire TV devices in the U.S. and U.K. will now find a dedicated "Games" tab alongside their movies, series, and sports content, allowing them to start playing instantly without additional downloads.
The Current Luna Library
The service offers a diverse catalog of titles, ranging from major AAA hits to casual "GameNight" experiences. Notable inclusions are:
- High-profile titles such as Hogwarts Legacy, EA Sports FC 26, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
- Family-oriented party games like Clue and Ticket to Ride.
- Amazon-developed originals, including the Courtroom Chaos series and Masters of the Universe: Legends Unite.
According to Amazon gaming chief Jeff Gattis, Luna will remain available as a standalone app for those who prefer not to use the Prime Video interface. While the Premium tier of Luna is not yet integrated into Prime Video, it remains a long-term goal for the company.
Strategic Vision and Industry Convergence
Gattis emphasizes that this move is designed to solve the "discoverability" problem, as millions of Prime subscribers remain unaware of the gaming benefits included in their memberships. By placing Luna within Prime Video, Amazon hopes to capitalize on the increasing convergence of linear media and interactive gaming.
«We see this as a customer-friendly way to keep entertainment in one place,» Gattis noted. «When you finish a show, why should you have to leave the platform to play a game?»
Future Outlook for Amazon Franchises
Despite the integration, high-profile Amazon-owned properties like the upcoming Tomb Raider titles and future James Bond projects are not yet part of the Luna library. Amazon is currently evaluating a "windowing strategy" that would balance console/PC releases with potential day-one availability on Luna Premium. While no specific commitments have been made, the company aims to eventually position Amazon as a primary destination for its major narrative-driven intellectual properties.
As the industry faces rising hardware costs, Amazon views cloud gaming as an accessible alternative for mainstream players. The company's ultimate goal is to build a sustainable, material gaming business that scales by utilizing the existing Prime subscriber base as a growth engine.
