While I have witnessed the impressive technical capabilities of AI models, the typical output often feels uninspired or even unsettling. However, my skepticism was recently challenged by a new feature introduced in ChatGPT.

ChatGPT has rolled out a new sticker generation tool that allows users to create personalized graphics and export them directly into iMessage and WhatsApp. The utility of this feature—making custom stickers of my own chihuahua—was enough to pique my interest. Unlike the generic AI art that feels forced, these stickers proved to be surprisingly high-quality and genuinely usable in casual conversations.


How to Use the Feature

The tool is currently exclusive to the ChatGPT mobile app. To get started, follow these simple steps:

  • Open the main menu by tapping the + icon.
  • Select Images from the options.
  • Choose Stickers, which is listed among the top templates.
  • Enter your prompt, customize it with emojis or style preferences, and generate your result.
  • Once satisfied, tap the "Add to chat apps" button to import the images into your messaging library.

Tips for Better Results

The quality of your stickers depends heavily on the input photograph. To achieve the best results, keep the following in mind:

"Choose a photo where the subject is clearly defined against the background, with excellent lighting on the face to ensure all key features are visible."

Avoid subjects that blend into their surroundings, such as a dark-colored pet on a dark sofa. Providing specific details in your prompt is also crucial for maintaining consistency.


Balancing Accuracy and Style

During my testing, I experimented with both realistic and cartoon-style prompts. While the tool isn't perfect, it remarkably preserved my dog's unique traits even when asked to generate exaggerated expressions. Moving toward "chibi" or cartoon styles resulted in a loss of specific color detail, but offered a broader range of fun, emotional expressions. Ultimately, these tools shine when they are treated as creative toys rather than "content generators," proving that AI can add a touch of personality to our digital interactions.
