The Challenge of Identifying AI Media

Distinguishing authentic photographs from AI-generated imagery is becoming increasingly complex. Previously reliable indicators, such as distorted hands or unnatural textures, are rapidly disappearing as AI models become more sophisticated. When a gut feeling suggests that an image might be artificial, you need a reliable method to confirm its origins.

Understanding Meta’s Detection Technology

To address these concerns, Meta embeds an invisible digital signature known as the “Content Seal” into all media created by its Muse model. This applies to images, audio, and video files. The robustness of this seal is notable; even if the media undergoes common modifications such as cropping, resizing, compression, or taking a screenshot, the marker remains intact, enabling Meta’s identification system to function effectively.

How to Verify Files in 4 Steps

If you have doubts about the authenticity of a specific piece of media, you can use the official Meta AI Identification portal. Follow these steps to verify your content:

  1. Access the Tool: Visit the official Meta AI Identification website.
  2. Upload Your Content: You can either drag and drop the image, video, or audio file directly into the interface, or select the file icon to upload it from your device. Alternatively, for online content, simply paste the direct URL of the media into the designated text box.
  3. Process the File: Once submitted, the upload will begin. The duration of this process typically lasts only a few seconds, contingent upon your internet speed and file size.
  4. Review Results: The system will scan the file for the Content Seal and provide an immediate confirmation regarding whether the media was created or altered using Meta’s AI technology.

Once you have finished your check, the platform allows you to clear the previous results and immediately verify another file, making it easy to perform batch checks if necessary.
