A Steampunk Success Story
Just a few weeks into its early access debut, the desert-based mech title Sand: Raiders of Sophie is proving to be a genuine market success. Despite a rocky patch release on July 2 that required a quick rollback, the game is gaining significant momentum.
Alex Nichiporchik, CEO of publisher TinyBuild, took to social media to celebrate the achievement, posting, «300K copies for Sand sold. We getting a half hour of air conditioning tonight!»
Rising Player Counts
Following the successful re-deployment of the game's second major update and coinciding with a holiday weekend in the US, the title hit a new concurrent player record on Steam, surpassing 40,000 users. This performance places the game firmly within the top 100 most-played titles on the platform. Given its $20 price point, the developer is seeing a healthy return on investment for their premium-priced experience.
Key Updates and Improvements
The developers have been highly active in addressing player feedback. The recent update focused on resolving connectivity issues, improving game stability, and refining core mechanics. Significant changes include:
- Server Stability: Resolved critical issues that kept players trapped on the «Connecting» screen.
- Anti-Cheat Adjustments: BattlEye configuration was improved to reduce instances of false-positive bans.
- Combat and Movement: Developers implemented several fixes for character movement, parkour responsiveness, and hit registration.
- Mech Balancing: Trampler collision physics were overhauled to reduce glitches and erratic shaking.
- Economy Adjustments: The patch introduced various tweaks to item sell prices and resource stacking, including adjustments to energy rod values and loot container drop rates.
The team continues to monitor for lingering issues, such as occasional character clipping on ladders or visibility bugs in spectator mode, promising further refinements in upcoming patches.
