Innovative Edge-Trimming Technology
For years, the biggest challenge for manufacturers of autonomous lawn mowers has been achieving a clean cut along edges, often leaving users to manually finish the job with a traditional trimmer. At IFA 2026, Anthbot unveiled its latest solution: the R7 Series, which integrates a specialized string trimmer directly into the mower.
Known as 'EdgeEase', this system features a robotic arm mounted to the side of the device. This arm is engineered to follow the curves and contours of a garden boundary, providing a precise trim that eliminates the need for manual touch-ups. While the mechanism tucks away when not in use, it offers a distinct mechanical approach to maintaining garden borders.
Enhanced Safety and Animal Detection
A significant highlight of the R7 Series is its proactive approach to wildlife preservation. Anthbot has equipped the mower with infrared sensors capable of detecting thermal signatures from small animals, such as hedgehogs, that may be concealed within the lawn. By identifying these creatures, the mower can adjust its path to avoid harm.
Regarding the string trimmer, Anthbot has implemented a dedicated camera to monitor the trimming arm. While the use of a string trimmer is often considered safer than a traditional blade for exposed components, the company places heavy reliance on its AI-powered obstacle detection to ensure the safety of the unit's moving parts during operation.
Performance and Navigation Capabilities
Beyond its specialized trimming arm, the R7 Series is built for high-performance lawn maintenance. Key features include:
- Cutting System: Two floating discs that adapt to uneven terrain for a uniform finish.
- Mobility: An all-wheel-drive system powered by four drive motors and two independent steering motors for superior traction.
- Navigation: A robust suite combining LiDAR, RTK, and AI-backed cameras, ensuring consistent positioning even in areas with poor satellite reception.
As noted in the official presentation, the R7 Series is
«designed to handle the complexity of real gardens rather than idealized, flat lawns», focusing on adaptability in diverse outdoor environments.
Model Variants
The Anthbot R7 Series consists of two distinct models tailored to different yard sizes:
- R730: Designed for properties up to 3,000 square meters, featuring the 'EdgeEase' trimmer as a standard component.
- R720: Suited for lawns up to 2,000 square meters with a smaller battery capacity; the string trimmer is available as an optional upgrade.
