Expanding the Survival Experience

Combining intense survival mechanics with scientific exploration, The Alters: The Last Variable arrives as a major expansion for the popular title. Following the events of the original game, Jan Scientist chooses to remain on the lush, recovering paradise of Oasis. To manage the immense workload of exploring a planet emerging from cataclysm, Jan must once again rely on his most unique resource: the Alters.

New Specialists and Scientific Discovery

In this DLC, Jan Scientist stays behind to continue his study of the planet, creating a new roster of variants to aid his mission. Players can now utilize the skills of a Geologist, Biologist, Chemist, and Physicist. Each variant brings distinct specializations that fundamentally change how the game is approached. According to the developers, this variety allows players to interact with the environment in entirely new ways, including the ability to terraform the planet from its largest canyons to its smallest streams.

Base Building and Environmental Threats

Exploration is limited by the planet's volatile nature, with frequent earthquakes posing a constant threat to Jan's survival. To mitigate these risks, players must construct and manage underground bunkers. The building system is intuitive, drawing inspiration from titles like Fallout: Shelter, yet it offers a fully immersive 3D experience. Players can easily place sophisticated facilities, such as communication hubs and quantum computing suites, to anchor their survival efforts.

Cutting-Edge Tech and Replayability

The DLC introduces advanced technology that surpasses the original game's offerings. Through the Cryosleep chamber and exclusive materials found in terraformed regions, players can witness the direct impact of their scientific choices on the planet's ecosystem. As noted in the announcement, the expansion provides roughly 20 hours of additional gameplay, inviting players to uncover every secret Oasis has to offer when it launches on July 13th.
