Saber Interactive has found itself at the center of a controversy surrounding its upcoming project, Ride-Stimulator. The situation escalated when former lead writer Stella Sacco alleged on social media that she had been replaced by ChatGPT during the game's development cycle. According to Sacco, her involvement as the project's lead writer was curtailed by management decisions favoring the use of AI tools over human expertise.
Sacco stated that she had been working on the title until being displaced by the chatbot. She further claimed that her direct supervisors had initially advocated for her continued involvement, citing her creative ability and experience. However, she alleges that higher-level executives pushed for the AI integration, viewing the technology as a marketing advantage rather than a creative necessity.
Saber Interactive's Stance
In an official statement, the studio categorically denied replacing human writers with AI. The company emphasized that its writing staff has grown significantly since 2023. "Neither Saber nor Unigine have replaced any writers with AI for Ride-Stimulator or any other game," the studio clarified. Regarding the use of automated technology, the company stated:
«The game will also feature an experimental, free-ride mode that by necessity incorporates AI as the number of passengers in the game is infinite. We are firm believers in using AI tools to improve or enhance gameplay experiences and improve NPC behavior as we have done since Saber was founded in 2001.»
Conflicting Perspectives
Despite the studio's denial, Sacco maintains her original position. She argues that her experience on the project contradicts the studio's official narrative, asserting that she was removed from the development process specifically to allow for the implementation of generative AI for the game's scripts and ongoing live updates.
