Resolving the Firmware Update Issue

Users who experienced technical failures with their Philips Hue Bridge Pro units following a June firmware update have received positive news. The company has officially acknowledged that a specific update process caused a limited number of devices to stop functioning, and it is now offering complimentary replacements to all affected owners, irrespective of their current warranty status.

The Root Cause of the Malfunction

The issues surfaced following the release of firmware version 2071353020 in June. According to official statements, the problem occurred only under a specific set of circumstances:

  • The user had automatic updates disabled.
  • The device remained on an outdated software version for an extended period.
  • The update was manually initiated after remaining stored on the bridge for over 10 days.

Philips clarified that the number of impacted devices is relatively small, noting that «fewer than 100 Philips Hue Bridge Pro devices have been impacted» by this firmware glitch.

Replacement Process and Future Prevention

For those whose devices were bricked, the company has advised reaching out to their customer support team to facilitate a replacement. While this is a helpful resolution, affected users will face the inconvenience of reconfiguring their smart home setups from scratch. Given that a single Bridge Pro can manage up to 150 lights and 50 accessories, as well as complex schedules and shortcuts, the restoration process may prove time-consuming for power users.

To ensure this error does not recur, Philips has confirmed that it has already deployed a subsequent update designed to address and eliminate the underlying cause of the failure in future installations.
