Perplexity has launched a new feature called 'Computer' that enables different AI models to collaborate on completing complex tasks. The system uses Opus 4.6 as its core reasoning engine but delegates specific jobs to specialized models: Gemini for deep research, Grok for speed on lightweight tasks, and ChatGPT 5.2 for long-context recall and wide searches.

Beyond answering questions, Perplexity Computer can execute workflows. It integrates with tools like Gmail, Outlook, GitHub, Slack, and Salesforce to write documents, build presentations, send emails, and run scheduled tasks automatically.

The system is model-agnostic, allowing users to choose which AI handles specific subtasks. This control is crucial for managing costs and efficiency as AI usage grows. Perplexity argues that AI models are specializing, not becoming interchangeable, and a smart system should leverage their unique strengths.

Available now for Perplexity Max subscribers on desktop, the feature represents a shift towards treating AI as a toolbox of specialized agents rather than a single general-purpose appliance.
