A Fresh Adventure in the Forgotten Realms

While Larian Studios has officially moved on from expanding the massive world of Baldur's Gate 3, the game's dedicated modding community continues to breathe new life into the title. A notable new addition is A Dream of Silence ReVamped, a substantial mini-campaign that provides roughly six hours of additional gameplay, centered entirely around the fan-favorite vampire companion, Astarion.

Inside the Mind of a Vampire

Originally inspired by a text-based game from developer Abigail Corfman, this mod has been fully compiled into a single, cohesive experience following the release of its final act. The story takes players on a surreal journey deep into Astarion’s psyche.

Unlike typical dream-based narratives, the stakes here are tangible. The dreamscape is dominated by a Bastellus—a malevolent entity that feeds on psychic energy. Players are projected into Astarion's mind, tasked with guiding him through a distorted and nightmarish reimagining of Cazador’s dungeon to secure his escape.

Gameplay Features and Mechanics

The mod introduces a variety of gameplay styles across its three acts:

  • Act One: Primarily focused on narrative and dialogue choices.
  • Act Two: Integrates combat mechanics and introduces six original companions to interact with.
  • Act Three: Offers further gameplay shifts to conclude the story.

The campaign is designed with significant replayability in mind, featuring four distinct endings that depend on the player's choices. According to the creator, known as lizardphunk, the project was intended to demonstrate the versatility of the Baldur's Gate 3 modding tools, potentially paving the way for more custom user-generated campaigns.

The Future of the Baldur’s Gate Franchise

As Larian Studios shifts its focus toward the Divinity series, high-quality mods serve as the primary source of new content for Baldur's Gate enthusiasts. While Hasbro, the owner of the franchise license, continues the search for a studio capable of handling a potential Baldur's Gate 4, major developers remain cautious due to the sheer scale of such a project.

Some industry interest has surfaced; for instance, as noted by sources, the team behind Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Owlcat Games, has indicated a potential interest in developing a future installment. For now, however, players looking for their next fix can find A Dream of Silence: Revamped available for download via Nexus Mods.
