Google has introduced a series of enhancements to the Google Home app, focusing primarily on power efficiency and overall system stability. The most notable addition is a new suite of widgets engineered to reduce battery consumption on mobile devices.
These updated widgets intelligently manage resources by pausing background updates and data polling whenever the phone is locked, the screen is turned off, or a screensaver is active. Once the device is unlocked, the widgets refresh instantaneously, ensuring that users maintain seamless access to their smart home controls without unnecessary battery drain.
Refining Camera Experience on Android and iOS
The update brings substantial improvements to live stream performance, addressing long-standing frustrations for users. On Android, the live stream tile is now more reliable; previously, users experienced black screens when switching back from full-screen mode to the Favorites tab. This issue has been rectified to ensure smooth transitions between views.
Additionally, Android users will benefit from improved video timeline scrolling. The interface is now more responsive, allowing for fluid navigation through recorded clips and offline gaps, effectively resolving prior freezing issues. For iOS users, Google has corrected a technical glitch with the 'Live' button, which previously caused playback interruptions when attempting to switch from recorded footage to live feeds.
Streamlined Account Management and Device Connectivity
Beyond camera improvements, Google has simplified the process of toggling between multiple Google accounts within the app. This optimization aims to reduce common errors, such as the persistent "Home not found" notification, resulting in a more stable user experience.
The update also enhances the initial setup process and improves the responsiveness of device status tiles. Gadgets like smoke detectors, carbon monoxide sensors, and cameras will now accurately display their active status, eliminating the previous issue where tiles would frequently appear greyed out or require manual refreshing.
