Inventor and artist Matty Benedetto from Unnecessary Inventions has developed a unique compact camera. This point-and-shoot style device is programmed to stubbornly refuse to capture an image unless it detects a dog in the frame.

The camera likely uses object recognition technology, common in autofocus systems, but applies it as a gatekeeper. If no dog is seen, the screen flashes "No dog, no photo." When a canine is detected, the shutter button turns green, allowing photos to be taken, ensuring the memory card is filled exclusively with dog pictures.

Benedetto's creation is presented as a piece of statement art, arguing that photos are better with dogs. While clearly an "unnecessary invention," it highlights playful applications of existing technology. The inventor's past projects include a multi-camera tripod printer and a camera phone case.
