Seamless Cross-Device Browsing
Google Chrome continues to enhance its reputation for cross-device connectivity. With its most recent update, the browser introduces a small but highly practical feature: the ability to synchronize scroll positions across different devices. Previously, opening a tab from another device simply redirected you to the page; now, Chrome remembers exactly where you left off.
This improvement proves particularly beneficial when transitioning from a mobile device to a larger screen, such as a laptop or tablet. You no longer need to scroll through a lengthy article to find your place again, as the browser automatically restores your last viewed position.
How to Access Synchronized Pages
To view your active tabs from other devices, navigate to the three-dot menu, select the "History" section, and you will see a list of all devices signed into your Google account. Furthermore, Google is refining the "Send to your device" functionality—found under the "Cast, save and share" menu—to ensure that shared pages open in the exact state they were in when sent. Please note that this feature is currently undergoing a phased rollout.
Gemini AI: New Tools for Students
Alongside browser synchronization, Google is significantly expanding Gemini’s role within Chrome, specifically targeting students and researchers. The AI assistant can now process media content beyond YouTube.
Key AI enhancements include:
- Media Summarization: You can now request summaries or ask specific questions about podcasts, videos, and various recordings played directly in your browser, even if they aren't hosted on YouTube.
- Automated Quiz Generation: Gemini can now create study quizzes based on the content of your current tab, including Google Docs or video materials.
"These tools provide a new way to verify study notes or quickly grasp the key details of long-form audio and video content," notes the update documentation.
While the AI quiz generation feature is launching initially in the US, UK, and India, Google plans to expand availability to additional regions in the near future.
