Evolution of the Citizen Model
s&box, the highly anticipated spiritual successor to the iconic Garry's Mod, is undergoing a visual refinement. Developed by Facepunch Studios and led by Garry Newman, the game is introducing a significant change to its character models: the addition of necks.
Customization and Player Choice
Previously, characters in s&box lacked necks, a design choice that proved polarizing among the player base. Following recent updates, players now have more agency over character appearance. Garry Newman explained the update, noting that the default citizen model now features a more neutral facial expression and the addition of a neck.
The developers have implemented a robust set of sliders, allowing players to fine-tune various anatomical features. As Newman detailed:
«We have sliders to alter other aspects of the body like their chest, waist, neck, and nose size. You can choose their eye colour too. So if you liked having no neck, you can bring that back with a slider.»
Addressing Community Feedback
While Newman personally expressed an affinity for the original, neckless design of the citizen, the team is committed to responding to community sentiment. The decision to introduce necks—and the flexibility to remove them—stems directly from ongoing player feedback.
Newman acknowledged that while this update is not a comprehensive solution for all issues within the game, it addresses a recurring point of criticism frequently cited in user reviews. The team at Facepunch Studios continues to monitor and integrate feedback to refine the overall s&box experience.
