Rapid Expansion of Chinese Memory Manufacturing

Major motherboard and hardware manufacturers, including industry giants like Asus and MSI, are increasingly validating their products for compatibility with Chinese-produced memory modules. This shift is driven by a significant surge in DRAM production capacity within China, spearheaded primarily by the manufacturer CXMT.

Catching Up to Industry Leaders

Market analysts suggest that CXMT is set to drastically increase its output. Projections indicate that the company could add between 600,000 and 1.1 million wafers per month (WPM) to its capacity. By the conclusion of 2026, CXMT is expected to reach an output of approximately 350,000 WPM. To put this in perspective, this figure rivals the current annual production capacity of global players like Micron.

Speed and Strategic Advantages

The pace of growth in the Chinese sector is notably faster than Western counterparts. Analysts point to structural efficiency as a key driver:

«Cleanroom construction time is around 12 months compared to 21-24 months in the Rest of the World.»

This rapid development is largely bolstered by substantial state support, allowing Chinese firms to expand existing fabs and invest in new R&D lines at an accelerated rate, especially amidst global supply shortages.

Market Integration and Future Outlook

The push to validate Chinese-made DRAM is a logical step for hardware manufacturers. Brands such as Corsair and Lexar have already begun integrating or planning to use CXMT memory for specific market segments. While historical tests showed that Chinese RAM was sufficient for gaming, the increased supply and potential for better cost-efficiency could shift the value proposition globally.

However, the impact of this increased supply may be tempered by the massive demand from AI-focused server infrastructures, which continue to absorb a significant portion of the global memory capacity.
