A Long-Awaited Update for Console Players
After a significant delay, Bethesda has finally set a release date for one of the most substantial updates in the history of the 2015 classic, Fallout 4. Originally slated for release last November, the patch was postponed to address technical complications. Now, players on Xbox and PlayStation can look forward to a massive expansion of the storage space allocated for user-made mods, known as "Creations."
Bethesda confirmed that this update will arrive on May 27 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
Significant Storage Boosts
The update brings varying degrees of storage improvements across different console generations:
- Xbox Series X|S: Storage capacity will expand from 2GB to a massive 100GB.
- PS5, PS4, and Xbox One: Storage will increase from the current 1-2GB limit to 15GB.
As the developer noted in its recent announcement: «We're excited the Fallout 4 Creations storage expansion will arrive for consoles on May 27th. Console players will soon have more space to download content, including larger, more ambitious Creations.»
Impact on Gameplay and Load Orders
For players who utilize mods, this change is transformative. The increased limits mean console users can finally incorporate high-quality graphical overhauls alongside a vast library of new weapons, armor, quests, and gameplay tweaks. While mods requiring the PC-exclusive Fallout 4 Script Extender remain unavailable, this update brings the console experience significantly closer to the freedom enjoyed by PC modders.
Important Note: Players should be aware that installing this update will wipe existing load orders. However, Bethesda has provided a method to preserve them.
How to Save Your Load Order
To ensure your mods are not lost, follow these steps within the Fallout 4 Creations menu:
- Navigate to the Load Order section.
- Select the Load Order Archive button.
- Choose «Save Load Order to Bethesda.net» and wait for the process to finish.
- Following the update, return to the same menu and select «Restore Load Order from Bethesda.net» to reinstate your mods.
Despite the six-month delay, this update represents a major positive development for the Fallout 4 community, providing a welcome refresh for the enduring title.
