A Discord user noted the El Paso TFR early on February 11, hours before media reports, highlighting the speed of a new ATC app. The app, developed by Enhanced Radar, combines air traffic control audio transcriptions with real-time flight data like FlightAware, using AI to process about a million transmissions daily.
CEO Eric Button said the app integrates map and audio features previously separate, offering aviation enthusiasts, student pilots, and professionals early alerts on events like engine failures. Proprietary hardware at 71 airports captures high-quality audio, with plans for expansion.
Users can search by tail number or AI-flagged events such as fires or icing. The app runs on the Y3 AI model, with a new Y4 model trained on a dataset 82 times larger, achieving over 98% accuracy in understanding ATC communications. The app costs $6.99 weekly or $89.99 annually, currently only on iOS.
Button emphasized the app's potential for enterprise use, including with the FAA, as AI improves efficiency and safety in aviation. The company sees this as a step toward broader AI solutions for the industry.
