Major Upgrades for the HomePod mini
Apple has unveiled its latest collection of smart home hardware, highlighted by the debut of the second-generation HomePod mini. While the device maintains the familiar compact aesthetic of its predecessor, it features substantial internal enhancements designed to modernize the user experience.
The updated speakers are offered in five distinct finishes—pink, green, blue, white, and midnight—and are priced at $149/£149.
Immersive Audio and Home Theater Integration
The HomePod mini 2 continues to offer room-filling 360-degree audio from a single unit. Users retain the option to pair two devices for stereo sound or distribute them across various rooms for a comprehensive multi-room audio setup.
A standout new feature is the ability to synchronize up to four speakers to create a full surround sound environment when paired with the latest fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. This system supports hybrid configurations, allowing users to combine the new mini units with the larger second-generation HomePod speakers for a tailored soundstage.
Siri AI and the New 'Sound Glow' Feature
Equipped with increased processing power, the new model now supports Apple's advanced Siri AI assistant. This integration enables a broad spectrum of voice commands, including:
- Managing smart home devices and routines.
- Performing web searches for instant information.
- Accessing personal data like emails and messages to quickly retrieve specific details.
Perhaps the most visually striking addition is what the company refers to as «Sound Glow». This feature utilizes the top surface of the speaker to create a pulsing, multicolored light effect that reacts dynamically to the audio being played. According to the company, it serves as both a vibrant personal disco effect and a calming visual supplement to various soundscapes.
Pre-orders for the Apple HomePod mini 2 are open now, with retail availability scheduled for October 30, 2026.
