A New Standard in Professional Cinema Optics

Zeiss has officially entered a new chapter in professional cinematography with the debut of the Horizon Anamorphic series. This premium lineup of full-frame lenses is specifically engineered for high-end productions, moving beyond traditional designs to offer a 2x squeeze factor and the iconic, sought-after oval bokeh that defines the anamorphic look.

Integrated Motorization and Streamlined Rigging

A standout innovation in this series is the integration of focus and iris motors directly into the lens barrels. By eliminating the necessity for external motor setups, Zeiss allows for a more efficient and cleaner rigging process on set. These lenses are fully compatible with existing industry-standard control systems, significantly enhancing reliability and repeatability for fast-paced professional workflows.

Tunable Character and Advanced Digital Control

Zeiss has introduced a unique “look-tuning” feature through an interchangeable rear element. This system allows cinematographers to modify the lens’s rendering—adjusting contrast, sharpness, and overall personality—without compromising technical calibration. Furthermore, the lenses feature built-in touch panels and dual displays. According to the company:

«The integrated displays provide real-time focus distance and t-stop data, enabling operators to manage settings directly from the lens barrel, representing a significant technological leap for cinema primes.»

Consistency and Technical Precision

The Horizon series simplifies production logistics by storing factory calibration and lens scales directly within each unit. This eliminates the need for repeated re-mapping or motor recalibration during lens swaps. The lineup includes seven focal lengths—35mm, 40mm, 50mm, 75mm, 110mm, 150mm, and 200mm—all sharing a uniform 114mm front diameter to ensure compatibility with standard matte boxes and accessories.

Availability and Physical Specifications

  • Weights and Dimensions: Despite the advanced internal electronics, the lenses remain manageable, weighing between 2.42kg and 3.25kg.
  • Unified Design: The 35mm through 75mm options feature a 199mm length, while the longer 110mm to 200mm lenses measure 262mm.
  • Rollout Schedule: The 40mm, 50mm, and 75mm lenses are expected to ship this autumn, with the remaining focal lengths following later in the year or into 2027.

While official pricing has yet to be announced, the Horizon Anamorphic series is positioned as a top-tier tool for professional filmmakers, blending modern digital convenience with classic cinematic quality.
