The Android 17 Rollout Overview
The stable version of Android 17 has officially begun its deployment for Pixel devices. Owners of the Pixel 6 and newer models can now download the latest operating system directly. While major manufacturers are generally improving their update cycles, the industry still faces fragmentation issues, which disproportionately affect budget and mid-range devices.
As a general rule, smartphones released in 2024 or later have a strong likelihood of receiving Android 17. However, there are exceptions, particularly among certain budget-focused manufacturers that utilize older Android versions at the time of a device's launch to limit the number of future platform updates.
Google Pixel
Google remains the leader in update speed. For Android 17, all devices starting from the Pixel 6 series are currently eligible for the stable build. Users can check for the update in their device settings menu.
Samsung
Samsung currently offers one of the best support cycles in the industry, guaranteeing seven OS updates for flagships and six for mid-range models. The Galaxy S23 series and newer flagships will receive Android 17, while A-series devices starting with the Galaxy A24 are also slated for the transition.
Vivo and iQOO
Vivo has significantly improved its software support with the introduction of the OriginOS interface. The flagship X300 series is guaranteed five years of updates, while the mid-range V70 series will receive four. The brand has also become much more consistent with timely security and platform patches.
OPPO
OPPO continues to strengthen its global presence and support structure. The company now promises five Android OS updates for its high-end devices, including the Find X9 Ultra and even the Reno 15 series. Many of their mid-to-high-range devices from recent years are confirmed for the Android 17 migration.
Motorola
While Motorola has made progress, it still trails behind competitors. The latest Razr Fold is an exception, receiving seven years of support. However, standard Razr models and the budget-focused Moto G series often receive only one or two platform updates, leaving many older or lower-cost models ineligible for Android 17.
Nothing
Nothing has distinguished itself with a clean software aesthetic and reliable support. By guaranteeing at least three platform updates for its entry-level and mid-range devices—such as the Phone 4a and 4a Pro—the brand ensures that the vast majority of its current portfolio will reach Android 17.
OnePlus
OnePlus maintains a solid portfolio of devices, with most phones released in the last three years expected to transition to Android 17. Since their software is now unified with ColorOS, users can typically expect stable updates shortly after the initial platform release.
Xiaomi
Xiaomi remains a point of contention regarding its update strategy. The company is often criticized for launching devices with outdated versions of Android, which effectively reduces the lifespan of the software support. Consequently, Xiaomi is frequently among the last manufacturers to deliver major platform updates to its users.
As manufacturers begin to release their specific rollout schedules for Android 17, the landscape for device eligibility will become clearer. We are actively tracking these announcements and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
