Six Months with a Constant Companion

It has been half a year since I integrated the Peak Design Mobile Tripod into my daily routine with my Pixel 8 Pro. What began as a trial has turned into a permanent setup; the accessory has remained firmly attached to my device ever since I first snapped it on.

While the tripod is compatible with MagSafe and Qi2 devices, the magnetic hold can feel a bit light on its own. To ensure complete peace of mind, I invested in Peak Design's SlimLink case, which offers a robust and reliable connection. The tripod is impressively slim, folding down to just 0.3 inches (0.8 cm), maintaining a sleek profile that doesn't feel cumbersome when attached vertically.

Versatility for Media and Photography

I originally purchased this tool specifically for hands-free photography and stable video recording. It functions perfectly as a tabletop tripod, making it an ideal companion for filming. However, it quickly proved its worth for entertainment as well, offering a comfortable way to watch long-form content on planes and trains without having to hold the phone manually.

Furthermore, its compact nature has opened doors for creative photography. Because it has such a small footprint, I have been able to balance it on narrow surfaces, like fence posts, to utilize the Pixel's long-exposure capabilities.

Design and Performance Considerations

The tripod features a clever ball-head design, allowing for precise adjustments that can be locked in using a small hex key hidden within the legs. Once the tension is set, the support remains rock solid, even for a larger device like the Pixel 8 Pro.

Naturally, there are trade-offs to such a compact form factor:

  • Limited Height: The legs are quite short, meaning your elevation options are constrained.
  • The Case Issue: While the SlimLink case is high quality, I found that it interfered with my phone's tap-to-pay functionality, necessitating its removal during checkout.
  • Wear and Tear: After four months, a small magnet holding the hex key loosened. While a quick fix with super glue solved the issue, it is a point of maintenance to keep in mind.

Despite these minor frustrations, the balance between portability—adding only 2.7 ounces (76g) to my device—and utility makes it a product I can easily recommend for anyone needing a reliable hands-free solution.

A Look at the Travel Weekender 25L

Over the same six-month period, I have also been testing the Peak Design Travel Weekender 25L. This bag has proven to be an excellent companion for both short trips and daily commutes. It features an intelligent internal layout, including a dedicated section for a 17-inch laptop and versatile dividers for camera gear and personal items.

«It is a remarkably functional bag that transitions seamlessly from a professional commute to a weekend getaway, especially when paired with a wheeled cabin suitcase.»

Whether I am carrying a camera, lenses, or simply everyday essentials, the bag provides excellent organization. It is a well-designed addition to the Peak Design ecosystem for those who value both form and functionality.
