New Connectivity Options with iOS 27
With the release of iOS 27, Apple is introducing a highly anticipated feature known as iPhone Handoff. This functionality enables users to utilize the same eSIM phone number across two distinct Apple devices. While the service will debut for T-Mobile customers in the United States and Deutsche Telekom users in Germany, it has been confirmed that T-Mobile will charge an additional $5 per month for those wishing to take advantage of this capability.
How iPhone Handoff Operates
It is important to clarify that this feature does not support simultaneous usage of the same number on two handsets. Instead, T-Mobile subscribers can designate which device is active at any given moment and switch between them as needed. When a user transitions to a different device, their calls, voicemails, text messages, and 'Find My' services automatically migrate to the new handset. Furthermore, iCloud data and third-party applications remain synchronized across both devices.
Setup and Requirements
To configure iPhone Handoff, users can navigate through the Settings menu on their current device or during the initial activation of a new iPhone. The process involves the following steps:
- Access Settings and select Cellular.
- Tap Set up Cellular or Add eSIM.
- Choose iPhone, then select Continue and Transfer.
- Follow the prompts provided on both screens to complete the sync.
Once the setup is finalized, users simply need to unlock the phone they intend to use. The system will display a notification stating, «Switched to this iPhone», confirming that the device is now active with their number.
System Compatibility
To utilize the Handoff feature, both devices must be updated to iOS 27 and be associated with the same Apple ID. Apple is scheduled to officially roll out the iOS 27 update on September 14.
