March 5 marked a major day for video games with the simultaneous launch of Bungie's sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon and Mega Crit's roguelike deckbuilder Slay the Spire 2. Despite Marathon's multi-platform release, Slay the Spire 2 achieved over double its concurrent player count on Steam, peaking at 177,362 players.
Mega Crit humorously congratulated Bungie on social media, referring to Marathon as a "small indie passion project" in a lighthearted jab. Both games are receiving very positive reviews from players on Steam.
Marathon is available on Xbox, PS5, and PC for $39.99, featuring crossplay. Slay the Spire 2 is in PC Early Access, with plans to remain so for 1-2 years, and introduces co-op for up to four players.
