Rumors are swirling about a significant shift for the God of War franchise, with multiple sources suggesting the next installment will not feature the series' iconic protagonist, Kratos. Instead, the game is reportedly centered on Faye, Kratos's second wife and a formidable Jötun warrior.
According to industry insiders, including Bloomberg's Jason Schreier and leaker NateTheHate, director Cory Barlog's secret project is this new God of War game. It will explore Faye's story prior to the events of the 2018 reboot and Ragnarök, focusing on action and potentially releasing in late 2026 or early 2027.
The reports, which began with Schreier's hints in 2025, were seemingly confirmed by him on March 1, 2026. While the sources are considered reliable, it is cautioned that development plans can always change before an official announcement.
