Seamless Connectivity for Global Travelers

The popularity of eSIM technology continues to grow among consumers and device manufacturers, offering a convenient alternative to physical SIM cards. Unlike traditional cards that require swapping and mailing, eSIMs allow for quick, digital switching between carriers directly through the device's operating system.

Building on this trend, the developers of the Opera browser have integrated eSIM capabilities directly into their Android application. To celebrate the launch, the company is providing a complimentary 3GB data package valid for the first three days of use, making it an ideal tool for upcoming international trips.

How the Offer Works

Opera has partnered with Holiday.com to provide this service. Users do not need to provide email addresses or payment card details to claim the initial 3GB of data. The offer is available to residents of the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Poland, provided they use an unlocked, eSIM-compatible Android device running version 10 or later.

The free allowance can be utilized across 47 designated destinations, ranging from Australia and various European countries to Singapore and South Korea. For travelers needing more, Opera also offers paid plans through its partner, boasting that their pricing is generally 33% lower than other major providers.

Data-Only Convenience

It is important to note that this is a data-only solution. It does not replace your primary phone number but functions alongside your existing SIM or eSIM. Once active, it provides internet connectivity for all apps, including WhatsApp, Google Maps, and web browsers. Connections utilize 5G networks where available, defaulting to older standards if necessary.

Simple Activation Process

Rather than requiring users to manage separate, standalone apps typically associated with travel eSIM providers, Opera has centralized the installation process:

  • Open the Opera app on Android.
  • Navigate to the profile icon in the bottom right corner.
  • Select the "eSIM" option.
  • Tap "Claim now" and select the destination country.

Following these steps will guide users through their phone's specific eSIM installation process. Once configured, the eSIM appears within the device's system network settings. As one user noted after testing the service: «Speeds were actually faster than on my regular SIM, and I could get online across all my apps without issue.»
