Expanding the Meta AI Eyewear Portfolio

Meta is expanding its smart eyewear lineup with the launch of three distinct new styles. Moving away from traditional partnerships with established designer fashion brands, these new models—the Meta Fury, Meta Adventurer, and a collaborative design by Kylie Jenner—feature prominent Meta branding. By bringing the design process in-house, Meta has managed to lower the entry price to $299, aiming to make AI-integrated eyewear more accessible to a broader audience.

Despite the branding shift, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth confirmed that the manufacturing is still handled by EssilorLuxottica, the company behind heavyweights like Ray-Ban and Oakley. This ensures that users retain the high standards of build quality and lens customization found in earlier generations.

Ergonomics and Customization

Meta has prioritized physical comfort with these new releases. The glasses feature significant ergonomic upgrades, including:

  • Adjustable Nose Pads: 3-way adjustable pads designed to accommodate a wider variety of facial structures.
  • Flexible Temple Arms: Arms that can move 5 degrees inward or outward to ensure a personalized fit.

Furthermore, the devices now include a customizable physical action button located on the top of the right frame. This button can be mapped to trigger Meta AI, initiate live translations, capture images, or control media playback, reducing the reliance on voice commands.

The Kylie Jenner "Starfire" Edition

The Kylie Jenner-designed model, dubbed "Starfire," stands out with premium touches. It features metal nose pads for easier maintenance, a mirror integrated into the charging case, exclusive system sounds, and a specialized Meta AI voice profile modeled after Jenner herself.

Performance and AI Capabilities

Internally, these glasses utilize an upgraded chipset, mirroring the performance seen in recent Meta smart eyewear models. This translates to faster processing for Meta AI interactions and improved battery efficiency. Key software updates include:

"Meta has expanded its live translation capabilities to include 14 new languages, bringing the total supported count to 20. This allows for real-time, cross-lingual communication with visual feedback provided via the Meta AI app interface."

In addition to translation, the AI now features food-logging functionality. Users can snap a photo of their meal and ask the AI for a nutritional breakdown, simplifying the process of tracking caloric intake.

Availability

All three models are currently available for purchase for $299 through Meta.com and major retail partners including Best Buy, Amazon, LensCrafters, and Sunglass Hut. Customers can select from a variety of lens options, including clear, sun, and prescription lenses ranging from -12 to +2.25.
