Expanding Educational Tools on Instagram
Instagram is rolling out a series of new updates to its School Partnership Program, an initiative originally introduced by Meta last year. The program was designed to enhance safety, with Meta committing to fast-track reports of bullying or harassment submitted by students from participating schools. These prioritized reports are handled by moderators within a 48-hour window.
New Communication Hubs and Features
The latest update focuses on community management, allowing partner schools to establish dedicated clubs and teams. These serve as central points for distributing information and coordinating schedules. Administrators for these groups, along with primary school program managers, are now empowered to publish Stories and Notes to their school community. For instance, a basketball team could use Stories to announce upcoming tryouts.
Furthermore, school administrators have the ability to launch Channels. These spaces are intended for broadcasting vital updates to a wider school community, encompassing not just students, but also parents and faculty members.
Verification and Privacy Protocols
To ensure a secure environment, the new content—including Stories and Notes—is exclusively visible to verified students. Meta has partnered with the third-party service UNiDAYS to manage identity verification before users can join their respective school communities.
Once verified, students gain access to a directory of their peers. Additionally, they have the option to display a school banner on their profile, a feature visible only to fellow verified students and connections they follow back. These updates are being implemented starting today.
