Release Date Shift

Fans eager for the Ghost of Tsushima anime will have to wait a little longer. During New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll announced that the project, titled Ghost of Tsushima Legends, is now slated for a 2028 release. This marks a delay from the previously anticipated 2027 window.

New Cast Additions

The announcement also highlighted additions to the voice cast, confirming that actors Mayumi Sako and Shinya Fukumatsu have joined the production. Notably, Sako is well-known to fans of the original 2020 game, as she provided the Japanese voice for the antagonist Tomoe. At this time, the specific roles for both Sako and Fukumatsu in the upcoming series have not been disclosed.

Background on the Franchise

The original Ghost of Tsushima game launched in 2020, immersing players in the tale of Jin Sakai’s quest for vengeance on Tsushima Island during the feudal era. The franchise expanded in 2024 with the release of Ghost of Yotei, which introduced a new protagonist named Atsu on a mission to track down the Yotei Six.

Creative Vision and Production

While the delay may come as a surprise to some, the project has maintained a relatively low profile since its initial reveal in January 2025. Despite the wait, leadership at Crunchyroll and PlayStation Productions remain highly optimistic about the adaptation.

«The Ghost of Tsushima anime will offer fans an exciting new way to experience the game in an anime style that will be bold and groundbreaking,» stated Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini.

Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, echoed this sentiment:

«Ghost of Tsushima's rich, immersive world and its fantastical Legends mode based on Japanese mythology provide the perfect canvas for this project, and Aniplex is the perfect partner to translate Sucker Punch Productions' hit video game into a stunning new anime series.»

The series is currently being directed by Takanobu Mizuno, known for his work on Star Wars: Visions.
