Fortnite's latest crossover reveal with "Solo Leveling: Arise" has sparked significant online backlash. Fans were highly anticipating the collaboration after months of leaks, but the first official preview of protagonist Sung Jin-Woo's skin has left many frustrated.
The primary complaint centers on the character's outfit. Instead of adopting the simpler blue hoodie look from the popular anime adaptation, Epic Games opted for the long black coat design from the "Solo Leveling: Arise" gacha game. Many players have dubbed it the "gacha design," arguing it lacks the recognizable aesthetic of the anime version that garnered widespread popularity.
Epic Games confirmed Sung Jin-Woo will arrive during Chapter 7 Season 1. A recent trailer showed him performing his iconic resurrection spell on Igris, strongly hinting the Blood-red Commander will also be a playable skin. The trailer confirmed licensing ties to Netmarble, signaling the crossover is specifically with the game adaptation, not the anime series.
Despite the criticism, some elements have been well-received. Many players welcomed Igris's inclusion, especially after the trailer showcased both his red armor and Shadow form. Additional cosmetics like a "Godly Statuette" backbling and "Ahjin Guild" emoticon are confirmed. Rumors about a Cha Hae-in skin circulate ahead of the expected February 20 release.
The controversy highlights strong fan demand for authentic anime-based collaborations, particularly after Solo Leveling became one of Crunchyroll's highest-rated titles. Whether disappointed fans reconsider once the skins go live remains to be seen.
