Performance Optimizations for Handheld Gaming
With the announcement of The Witcher 3 Remastered, many players have been concerned about how the update would impact performance on the Steam Deck, particularly given the game's age and the new graphical demands. Fortunately, developers have confirmed that the transition to the remastered version should be seamless for handheld users.
In a discussion regarding the upcoming title, Jakub Kutrzuba, executive producer of external projects at CD Projekt Red, stated that the game is expected to run just as efficiently as the original on Valve's portable console. This is largely due to significant improvements made to the rendering engine.
«When it comes to Steam Deck, based on what we see, the game will work the same way, but look much much better. Because from one side we are bringing all these improvements, we are bringing new content, we are upgrading the assets, but [we also have] the new rendering features.»
Efficiency Gains in the New Rendering Engine
Kutrzuba explained that the updated engine allows for higher visual fidelity without necessarily increasing the hardware load. By streamlining various internal systems, the developers have managed to render a significantly more detailed image without requiring extra processing power.
This efficiency is a major win for mobile gaming, as the developer noted that these optimizations also extend to upcoming hardware, such as the Nintendo Switch 2. This ensures that the remastered content, including new textures and assets, won't overwhelm the hardware's memory or thermal capabilities.
A New Standard for CD Projekt Red
It appears that the studio has applied lessons learned from previous high-profile releases to ensure this remaster is well-optimized. Players can look forward to exploring the revamped landscapes of White Orchard and engaging in combat with improved visuals, all while maintaining a stable frame rate on the go.
