New Smart Home Command Center
At its recent 'Welcome Home' event, Apple took the wraps off HomeView, a dedicated smart home hub engineered to centralize the management of connected home ecosystems. The device is built around a 7-inch Liquid Retina touchscreen and serves as a primary interface for home automation.
The hub is offered in two distinct form factors: a tabletop variant featuring an integrated speaker base, and a wall-mounted unit. The tabletop version is offered in a variety of finishes, including Silver, Starlight, Rose Pink, and Space Grey, while the wall-mounted model comes in Silver and Space Grey.
Pricing and Market Rollout
Both models are priced at £299/$299. Pre-orders commenced on October 13, with the official market release scheduled for November 13 across the US, UK, and various other regions. Notably, the wall-mounted version necessitates an additional mount, which starts at £59.95/$59.95. Apple has confirmed that the device will not be available in the European Union at this time, citing the current unavailability of Siri AI features within the region's iOS environment.
Processing Power and Intelligent Assistant
At the core of HomeView lies Apple's A18 chip. This processor powers the enhanced Siri AI, which offers improved general knowledge and contextual awareness. When integrated with an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, Siri gains the ability to utilize personal data from applications like Calendar and Messages to deliver highly tailored interactions. Furthermore, the device supports multi-user recognition, capable of identifying up to six distinct individuals to provide personalized widgets, apps, and home screen configurations.
Entertainment and Home Automation
Beyond its utility as a control panel, HomeView functions as a multimedia device with support for:
- FaceTime and Messages
- Apple Music and Apple TV
- Podcasts
The device is equipped with an audio system tuned for room-filling output, with seamless Handoff and multi-room audio capabilities allowing users to transition media effortlessly between Apple hardware. As a smart home dashboard, it provides real-time control for smart locks, thermostats, lighting, and blinds, and supports the simultaneous viewing of up to nine security camera feeds. It is compatible with Apple Home and Matter-enabled accessories, as well as the new Apple Home Collection developed in partnership with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.
Commitment to User Privacy
Apple emphasizes that privacy remains a cornerstone of the HomeView experience. According to the company:
«Secure Exclaves are utilized to ensure that microphone and camera data processing remains isolated from the rest of the system. Additionally, Siri interactions are processed either locally on the device or via Private Cloud Compute, ensuring that data is neither stored nor accessible by Apple.»
