Anthropic has introduced a significant update to its Claude AI assistant, featuring a new memory tool designed to simplify the process for users switching from competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. The key addition is a free data import feature previously reserved for paying subscribers.
The tool allows users to seamlessly transfer their existing conversation history and preferences from other chatbots into Claude. By accessing the settings menu, users can find a pre-written prompt to copy into their current AI chatbot. The output from that prompt is then pasted into Claude's new import tool, eliminating the need to start from scratch.
This strategic move to lower the barrier for switching comes after Claude gained increased public attention. This followed Anthropic's reported refusal to alter its contractual terms with the Pentagon, which restricted the use of Claude for mass surveillance or fully autonomous weapons systems.
