Workforce Reductions at Night Street Games
Night Street Games, the studio behind the capture-the-flag shooter Last Flag, has announced a significant restructuring. The developer is cutting its team size, with executive producer Jonathan Jelinek confirming a reduction in personnel. CEO Mac Reynolds—who co-founded the studio alongside his brother Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons—revealed that approximately 12 employees have been laid off, leaving a core team of 13 to focus on future projects.
Reflecting on the difficult decision, Mac Reynolds noted:
«Game development is an inherently risky business, and it's not lost on us what it means to take a chance on something you believe in.»
The Challenges of Last Flag
While the game received positive feedback, including praise from industry critics for its unique mechanics, Last Flag struggled to maintain a sustainable player base. Earlier this year, the studio attempted to revitalize interest by making the title free-to-play on weekends. However, these efforts proved insufficient to justify the costs of ongoing development beyond immediate maintenance.
Empowering the Community
Despite the downsizing, the studio remains committed to a final content roadmap for Last Flag. Over the coming months, the team plans to release several updates, including:
- New playable characters and maps
- Additional game modes and cosmetic items
- Custom lobby support allowing players to implement their own rule sets
By providing these tools, the developers aim to hand the longevity of the game over to the fans. Reynolds stated, «Putting the future of the game in the hands of our players is something we can all be proud of.» Once this final support phase concludes, the remaining 13 developers will shift their focus toward new concepts and upcoming titles.
